Austin Woman Arrested Intoxication Manslaughter Southeast Labor Day Crash

On Labor Day, September 1, 2025, a fatal two-vehicle crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of 5200 East Ben White Boulevard in Austin, resulting in the death of passenger Sheyla Alejandra Mascorro. The driver, 21-year-old Sonia Edith Ramos, was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter after admitting to drinking two shots of vodka prior to the crash and describing the passenger dancing with half her body out the window before Ramos rear-ended another vehicle. This crash is Austin's 71st fatal collision in 2025, accounting for 75 deaths, a rise compared to the same date in 2024 when 59 fatal crashes resulted in 64 deaths. The Austin Police Department's Vehicular Homicide Unit continues to investigate the incident and is seeking additional information from the public.
