March of the Living Commemorates Łódź Ghetto Liquidation, Honors Holocaust Victims
The March of the Living held a solemn event on August 29, 2025, in Łódź, Poland, to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the liquidation of the Łódź Ghetto, one of the largest established by Nazi Germany during the Holocaust. Holocaust survivor Leon Weintraub, who survived multiple concentration camps and shared his testimony, joined the mayor, dignitaries, and community members in retracing the route from the Jewish Cemetery to Radegast Station, marking the last transport to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Weintraub urged the younger generation to remain vigilant against rising antisemitism, emphasizing that remembering the Holocaust is essential to preventing such atrocities from recurring. The event was organized by the March of the Living in partnership with local authorities and Jewish organizations, highlighting the importance of memory, responsibility, and combating hatred. Additionally, Prague will host a silent procession titled "Light for Lost Childhood" to honor children affected by conflict in Palestine and Israel, bringing together church leaders, human rights groups, and civic organizations in a peaceful act of solidarity and remembrance. The procession aims to unite participants in silence to express grief and support relief efforts for civilians, underscoring the power of collective compassion and human rights advocacy.
