Sun PhuQuoc Airways Secures Official Air Transport License in Vietnam

Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA), backed by Vietnam's Sun Group, has received an official air transport license from the Ministry of Construction, marking a significant milestone for Vietnam's aviation and tourism sectors. The airline, with a 2.5 trillion VND investment, will operate from Van Don International Airport and use Phu Quoc as its central hub, connecting key domestic cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, as well as international destinations including Japan, South Korea, China, Russia, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and Europe. SPA plans to launch its maiden flight in late 2024 and aims to build a modern fleet of 31 aircraft by 2030, initially operating Airbus A320 and A321neo narrow-body jets, while negotiating with Boeing for wide-body aircraft like the 787-9 and 787-10. The airline will operate a full-service business model combined with charter flights, focusing on enhancing accessibility to Phu Quoc Island and supporting Vietnam's position as a growing tourism and business hub. Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized the importance of safety and efficiency throughout the licensing process, reflecting the government's commitment to high operational standards. Sun PhuQuoc Airways is expected to revolutionize travel experiences by bridging Vietnam’s island paradise with both domestic and untapped international markets, thereby propelling tourism growth.
