Midwest, Maryland Experience Cooler, Wetter Early August Conditions
Much of the Midwest and parts of the Western U.S. are experiencing cooler and less humid conditions as August begins, following a historically wet July in some areas. Iowa's state climatologist reports below-normal temperatures and dew points, creating a more comfortable atmosphere reminiscent of late spring, with increased chances of thunderstorms due to abundant soil moisture. Similarly, Fremont County, Wyoming, is seeing warming temperatures accompanied by showers and thunderstorms east of the Continental Divide, with rain chances expected to decrease as the week progresses. In Maryland, a cooler and drier weekend is anticipated with temperatures about 10 degrees below average, less humidity, and mostly cloudy skies with occasional showers. Overall, the first week of August is expected to bring a break from the oppressive heat and high humidity that characterized the previous month across these regions.
