Ohio Man Faces Charges After Strangling Dog Over $500 Euthanasia Fee

Richard Orth, a 59-year-old man from Cincinnati, Ohio, is facing felony charges for cruel treatment of companion animals after he strangled his elderly dog, Tinkerbell, rather than pay a $500 euthanasia fee at the Animal Hospital of Delhi Hills. Orth was recorded saying, “Go be with God. I won’t let you suffer. $500 is highway robbery,” before strangling the dog, which caused injuries to its neck and throat and ultimately required euthanasia. Orth was indicted on June 2 and could face up to one year in prison if convicted.
