Colorado Parks Wildlife Confirms Six Wolf Pups in One Ear Pack

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has confirmed a minimum of six wolf pups in the One Ear Pack located in Jackson County, marking a significant milestone in efforts to restore a self-sustaining gray wolf population in Colorado. CPW director Jeff Davis highlighted the importance of this successful reproduction while noting that the confirmed number may be an underestimate due to challenges in detecting pups early in the season, such as their small size and use of covered homesites. Female gray wolves typically give birth to four to six pups, with first-year survival rates estimated between 50 and 60 percent, and an average lifespan of three to four years in the Rocky Mountains. CPW is actively monitoring four recognized wolf packs in northwest Colorado and cautions the public against disturbing packs or trespassing on private lands, as these actions are subject to fines and legal consequences. The One Ear Pack is one of several newly named packs following the reintroduction of wolves to the state, alongside the Copper Creek, King Mountain, and Three Creeks packs. Video footage of the pups has been shared by CPW, further documenting the ongoing restoration efforts.
