UK Startup CuspAI Raises $100M to Accelerate AI Materials Discovery
CuspAI, a UK-based AI startup founded in 2024, has raised $100 million in a Series A funding round co-led by New Enterprise Associates and Temasek, with participation from Nvidia's venture arm, Samsung Ventures, Hyundai Motor Group, and other investors. The company uses generative AI combined with molecular and physics-based simulations to accelerate the discovery of new materials, enabling customers in automotive, semiconductor, energy, and climate sectors to design and validate materials up to ten times faster than traditional methods. Valued at approximately $520 million, CuspAI aims to address global challenges in clean air, water, AI compute, and sustainable energy by removing materials-related barriers. The startup counts AI pioneers like Geoffrey Hinton and Yann LeCun as scientific advisors and has formed partnerships with major companies such as Hyundai, Meta, and Kemira. New board members include industry veterans Lord John Browne and Martin van den Brink, who will help advance CuspAI's commercial ambitions. The funding will support scaling the platform and accelerating the market introduction of transformative materials across multiple industries.
