Man Sentenced 13 Years Attempted Murder Inverness Shop Worker
Richard Wilson, 28, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for the attempted murder of an 84-year-old shop worker in Inverness. The brutal attack occurred on March 12, 2024, when Wilson punched the elderly man 18 times, stamped on his head, and kneed him in the face, causing a bleed on the brain and serious injuries. The victim called for help and threatened to contact the police, prompting Wilson to assault him further and steal e-cigarettes before leaving the shop, with the attack caught on CCTV. A woman present intervened to protect the victim from additional harm, an act commended by authorities. Upon arrest, Wilson admitted to having taken drugs and alcohol and expressed remorse, saying he was heartbroken and could not believe his actions. Police Scotland emphasized the severity and unacceptability of such violence and thanked the community for their support during the investigation.
