Netflix Dragon's Lair Film Nears Director With James Bobin

Netflix's long-awaited adaptation of the 1980s arcade classic Dragon's Lair has found its director in James Bobin, known for his work on The Muppets films. Ryan Reynolds is attached to star as the bumbling knight Dirk the Daring and will also serve as a producer, with the project having been greenlit in 2020 after securing the rights. Originally envisioned as an interactive, choose-your-own-adventure style film with a 400-page script, the project has since been reconfigured into a more traditional linear narrative. The game, famous for its challenging gameplay and humorous death animations, follows Dirk's quest to rescue Princess Daphne. Producers including Roy Lee and Trevor Engelson, along with original creators Don Bluth and Gary Goldman, are involved. Reynolds has expressed enthusiasm about Netflix's innovative approach to the adaptation, which aims to blend technology and storytelling in a unique way.
