Shooting Kills Three Including Infant at Utah Carnival
At the WestFest carnival in West Valley City, a suburb of Salt Lake City, a shooting occurred after police approached two groups involved in a verbal altercation. A 16-year-old male from one group fired a gun, killing three people including an eight-month-old infant, an 18-year-old male from one of the groups, and a 41-year-old female bystander. Two teenagers were also injured during the incident, though their connection to the dispute remains unclear. The suspect was taken into custody, and police continue to investigate the circumstances. The shooting has deeply affected the community, as the event was meant to be a celebration. This incident is part of a broader pattern of gun violence in the U.S., with 156 similar shootings resulting in four or more deaths in the first half of 2025.
