Mexico Tourism Surges 12 Percent July Boosting Economy

Mexico's tourism sector experienced a robust surge in July 2025, with international visitor arrivals increasing by approximately 12.3% compared to the previous year, totaling over 8.4 million travelers. About half of these visitors stayed overnight, showing a 6.1% rise, while day-trippers increased nearly 19.5%, reflecting a growing preference for longer stays and diverse travel experiences. Tourist spending reached $3 billion in July 2025, marking a 10.2% increase year-over-year, despite a slight 1.9% decline in average spending per visitor, a trend offset by the higher volume of tourists. Air travel continues to be a critical driver of higher spending, with air travelers averaging $1,194 each, significantly more than those entering by land or border crossings. The steady influx of tourists, including those from the U.S. border region and other international markets, underscores Mexico's rising status as a global tourism hub and supports broader economic growth. Concurrently, Mexico's trade relationship with the U.S. remains strong, with cross-border trade increasing 5% in July 2025, reinforcing Mexico's position as America's top trading partner amid ongoing investment and manufacturing expansion.
