House Oversight Denies Immunity for Ghislaine Maxwell Testimony
Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking, has been subpoenaed to testify before the House Oversight Committee on August 11, but her attorneys have requested immunity from prosecution in exchange for her testimony, which the committee has firmly rejected. Maxwell's legal team, led by David Markus, argues that testifying without immunity would expose her to further legal risks and have requested the deposition be moved from prison, have questions provided in advance, and delayed until after her Supreme Court appeal is resolved. Despite these demands, the committee, chaired by Republican James Comer, insists it will not consider granting immunity or altering the deposition schedule. Maxwell's case remains politically charged, involving scrutiny over Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking ring and drawing interest from both congressional Democrats and supporters of President Donald Trump, who is seeking transparency on the matter. The Justice Department has also been involved, with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche recently interviewing Maxwell, but has declined to comment on potential deals. Maxwell and her attorneys maintain she was unfairly prosecuted and continue to seek clemency and Supreme Court review of her conviction.
