Athletics sign infielder Luis Urias to one-year deal
The Oakland Athletics have signed infielder Luis Urias to a one-year contract as they prepare for the upcoming 2025 season. Urias, who struggled last year with the Seattle Mariners, posting a batting average of .191, will compete for a spot in the infield, particularly at third base, against free agent Gio Urshela. Despite his recent performance, Urias has a history of power hitting, including a notable 2021 season with the Milwaukee Brewers where he hit 23 home runs. While his exact role with the Athletics remains uncertain, he has already been assigned a locker at the team's spring training facility in Arizona. The Athletics cleared a roster spot for Urias by placing right-hander Luis Medina on the 60-day injured list due to Tommy John surgery. This move reflects the team's efforts to bolster their infield depth heading into the new season.
