US Imposes Sanctions on Four ICC Judges, Prosecutors Over Israel Probes
President Donald Trump's administration has imposed sanctions on four officials of the International Criminal Court (ICC), including two judges and two prosecutors, escalating U.S. pressure on the court for its investigations targeting Israeli leaders and past probes into U.S. personnel. The designated individuals are Nicolas Yann Guillou of France, Nazhat Shameem Khan of Fiji, Mame Mandiaye Niang of Senegal, and Kimberly Prost of Canada, all involved in cases against Israel or the United States. These sanctions freeze their U.S. assets and block transactions with U.S. persons, aiming to impede the ICC's judicial activities, which the U.S. views as illegitimate overreach and a national security threat. The ICC had issued arrest warrants last November against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former defense chief Yoav Gallant, and Hamas leader Ibrahim al-Masri for alleged war crimes during the Gaza conflict, prompting U.S. condemnation and action. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the administration emphasize the ICC's politicization and disregard for national sovereignty, asserting that the U.S. will take necessary measures to protect its troops and allies. The sanctions follow a similar round earlier in 2025 and are part of a broader U.S. stance against the ICC's investigations involving American and Israeli nationals.
