Gaza Humanitarian Foundation Rebuts Former Contractor’s War Crime Allegations
The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a U.S. and Israel-backed organization overseeing aid distribution in Gaza, has been at the center of controversy amid allegations of militarized aid and violence against civilians at its sites. France's foreign minister condemned the GHF's operations, calling the distribution system a "bloodbath" responsible for civilian deaths in aid lines, a claim supported by UN estimates of over 1,000 killings near GHF sites since May. Anthony Aguilar, a former U.S. Green Beret and ex-GHF contractor, publicly accused the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) of shooting unarmed, starving Palestinians at distribution centers, describing the foundation's operations as amateurish and tragic. However, GHF and its contracting company UG Solutions have strongly refuted Aguilar's claims, presenting evidence that he was terminated for misconduct, accused him of fabricating documents, and highlighted his attempts to be rehired while spreading false narratives. The BBC and other media outlets have aired Aguilar's allegations, which have been critiqued for lacking corroboration and possibly serving as part of a broader PR campaign against the GHF. Meanwhile, humanitarian aid continues to be severely restricted in Gaza, with the U.N. warning of a famine scenario and France committing to deliver aid flights in cooperation with Jordan to alleviate the crisis.
