Des Moines Woman Killed in I-35 Collision with Stalled Semi

A tragic accident occurred on Interstate 35 in Iowa when 19-year-old Emilie Anne Vanwinkle lost control of her vehicle and collided with the rear of a semi-truck that was parked on the shoulder due to mechanical issues. The collision happened near Ankeny around 3:30 p.m. and resulted in Vanwinkle's death at the scene. The semi, a 2007 Peterbilt driven by Cole David Ladehoff, was stationary at the time of the crash. Vanwinkle was reported to have been wearing a seatbelt during the incident. No other injuries were reported, and the Iowa State Patrol was assisted by multiple agencies in responding to the crash.
