Mpox Surges in Ghana, Kenya, Sierra Leone

Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) outbreaks are intensifying in West Africa, with Ghana, Kenya, and now Sierra Leone reporting rising cases. Ghana has confirmed six new cases, bringing its total to 85 across 10 regions, and is implementing contact tracing, treatment, and public education to contain the spread. Kenya has reported 137 confirmed cases across 17 counties, prompting expanded surveillance and awareness efforts by the government. Sierra Leone faces a particularly alarming outbreak, with cases doubling every two weeks and the emergence of a new, fast-spreading variant known as G.1. Health authorities in all three countries stress the importance of early detection, isolation, and community awareness in controlling the virus.
