REI Plans Multiple New Stores Across California, Texas, Utah

REI Co-op is expanding its retail presence with plans to open three new stores by the end of summer 2025, including two in Northern California (Chico and Elk Grove) and one in Durango, Colorado. Each store will offer a wide range of outdoor recreation gear, apparel, and full-service bike shops, with seasonal ski and snowboard shops in colder locations. These new locations were strategically chosen for their proximity to popular outdoor landmarks and communities where REI members live or frequently visit, according to Mary-Farrell Tarbox, REI’s vice president of stores. In addition to the 2025 openings, REI plans to open a fourth Utah store in St. George in 2026, along with other new locations such as Prosper, Texas. The expansions emphasize convenience and access for outdoor enthusiasts, furthering REI's commitment to supporting active lifestyles and outdoor adventures. This growth reflects REI's ongoing strategy to serve key outdoor recreation hubs across the U.S.
