Germany Seeks Logistics Support from Major Firms for NATO Readiness

Germany is in active negotiations with major logistics and transport companies, including Rheinmetall, Lufthansa, and Deutsche Bahn, to bolster its ability to rapidly deploy troops, ammunition, and equipment to NATO's eastern border in the event of a crisis, particularly in response to potential Russian aggression. As a central logistical hub for NATO, Germany has committed to providing tens of thousands of soldiers and significant military assets within 30 days of a major conflict. The Bundeswehr is also considering having Lufthansa's flight school provide basic training for fighter jet pilots. These efforts underscore Germany's reliance on civilian contractors for military logistics, a necessity due to infrastructure limitations and increased demands from NATO's strategic plans. The push for enhanced defense readiness follows Germany's adoption of a new National Security Strategy and increased focus on defense since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
