John Turturro Directs Joe Torre Documentary

John Turturro is directing Joe Torre, a feature documentary produced by MLB Studios, Motto Pictures (producers Christopher Clements and Julie Goldman) and BD4 that is currently in production. The film will chronicle the Hall of Famer’s life and career — including his nine All‑Star selections, the 1971 NL MVP award, more than 2,000 career hits as a player and over 2,000 managerial wins — and traces his rise from a troubled Brooklyn childhood to an 18‑year MLB playing career and transformative managerial tenure that led the Yankees to six pennants and four World Series titles. It combines new candid interviews with Torre and key figures, extensive MLB archival footage and original storytelling. Turturro says the film will emphasize Torre’s “quiet strength,” compassion and emotional leadership, and it is expected to explore how personal challenges shaped his approach and note his off‑field work, including efforts to address domestic violence through the Safe At Home Foundation.
