Sorkin's Social Network Sequel Gets New Cast, Focus
Aaron Sorkin is developing a sequel to The Social Network, focusing on Facebook's recent controversies such as misinformation, teen mental health issues, and the platform's involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot, as exposed in The Wall Street Journal's 'The Facebook Files.' Jesse Eisenberg is not expected to reprise his role as Mark Zuckerberg, with Jeremy Strong considered the leading candidate to replace him, though no offers have been finalized. Mikey Madison is reportedly in talks to play whistleblower Frances Haugen, while Jeremy Allen White may portray WSJ reporter Jeff Horwitz. Sorkin will both write and direct the film, marking a change from the original, which was directed by David Fincher. Sony Pictures is officially backing the project, but casting and production are still in early stages. The sequel aims to critically examine Facebook's global impact, moving beyond its origin story.
