Seattle Sues Trump Administration Over Federal Funding

The City of Seattle has filed its third lawsuit against the Trump administration, contesting executive orders that threaten nearly $370 million in federal funding for essential services, including public safety, housing, and infrastructure. City officials argue the executive orders unlawfully target diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and gender identity policies. Mayor Bruce Harrell and City Attorney Ann Davison claim the orders represent executive overreach and violate constitutional principles such as the separation of powers and the Spending Clause. The lawsuit seeks to block enforcement of these orders, which Seattle says unlawfully coerce local governance by tying unrelated federal funds to compliance with federal directives. Officials warn that losing this funding would significantly affect programs relied on by residents. The legal action also comes as both Harrell and Davison are up for re-election.
