Communities Nationwide Mark Veterans Day
Communities nationwide are staging Veterans Day parades, ceremonies and fundraisers across early November, with events clustered on Nov. 1, Nov. 2, Nov. 8 and the official Nov. 11 observance. In the Greater Rochester area officials will hold a City employee Veterans Recognition on Nov. 12, a downtown Veterans Day parade on Nov. 8 with Honor Flight Rochester as grand marshal, and RIT will host a Veterans Day breakfast featuring awards and keynote speaker Viviana DeCohen. Columbus will observe Veterans Day at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 at the Bartholomew County Memorial with keynote John Conner, wreath-laying by veterans’ groups, patriotic music and rifle volleys. Reno’s downtown parade begins at 11:11 a.m. on Veterans Day under the theme “Service to Our Nation,” including a prayer, the National Anthem and an official city proclamation. Regional events also include Lubbock’s 10th annual parade on Nov. 1, Lexington County’s parade on Nov. 2, Putnam County/Cookeville and Elkins parades and ceremonies on Nov. 8, and complementary activities such as Rochester’s Stars & Stripes Celebration, a USO-style musical at the Mill Race Center, and Rusty’s Men’s veteran vendor market and beer garden in Waterford highlighting veteran-owned businesses.
