Reds Acquire Miguel Andujar From Athletics In Trade

The Cincinnati Reds acquired utility player Miguel Andujar from the Oakland Athletics in a trade involving minor league right-handed pitcher Kenya Huggins. Andujar, 30, is having a strong 2025 season with a .298 batting average, six home runs, and 27 RBIs, and is especially effective against left-handed pitching, hitting .422 with a 1.036 OPS. Known for his versatility, Andujar has played primarily third base this season but also has experience in the outfield and at first base, fitting the Reds’ need for a middle-of-the-order bat against lefties. The Athletics, facing a surplus of infielders and outfielders and with Andujar set to become a free agent after the season, chose to trade him for Huggins, a 22-year-old right-hander recovering from Tommy John surgery, who boasts a three-pitch mix and will join the A’s High-A Lansing rotation. Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall highlighted Andujar's value as a power bat against left-handed pitching, while A’s general manager David Forst emphasized Huggins's potential despite his slow development.
