Oconomowoc Rotary Restores Political Parade Participation

The Rotary Club of Oconomowoc initially barred political parties and elected officials from the city's 150th Fourth of July parade to promote an apolitical, inclusive celebration. This decision led to significant backlash from local officials, political parties such as the Waukesha County GOP, and community members who argued the move undermined tradition and community representation. State Rep. Barbara Dittrich was among those who publicly criticized the exclusion. Facing widespread criticism and a divided community response, the Rotary Club reversed its decision, apologized, and reaffirmed that all political parties and representatives are welcome to participate as in previous years. The club acknowledged that their attempt at inclusivity inadvertently caused division and stressed their commitment to unity. The parade will continue its tradition of including political participants to celebrate the city's milestone and community diversity.
