Multiple Arson Attacks Disrupt German Rail Lines Düsseldorf, Saxony-Anhalt

A major railway line between Düsseldorf and Duisburg in Germany has been targeted by two arson attacks within two days, severely disrupting train traffic. The fires, set deliberately in cable ducts that are crucial to the signaling system, have caused extensive damage and paralysis of one of the country's busiest rail connections, which handles over 620 trains daily. Authorities suspect sabotage, with investigations pointing toward left-wing extremists, and state security agencies are involved. A letter claiming responsibility was posted on the left-wing platform Indymedia by a group calling themselves the "Angry Birds Commando," criticizing the industrial system. Deutsche Bahn has undertaken extensive repair work, set up shuttle services, and rerouted traffic, but disruptions are expected to continue at least until Saturday morning. The incidents have affected passenger and freight services, including those serving Düsseldorf International Airport.
