Gunn Clarifies Batman Casting, Delays, and DCU Plans

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has clarified that while it is highly unlikely Robert Pattinson’s Batman will join the new DC Universe (DCU), it is not entirely impossible, though no crossover plans exist at this time. Gunn confirmed that rumors about casting or imminent announcements for the DCU Batman film, The Brave and the Bold, are unfounded, as neither casting nor scripting has started. Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, starring Pattinson, has been delayed again due to slow script development, now set for release on October 1, 2027, but Gunn assured fans the project is still moving forward. He stated that The Brave and the Bold is not expected to debut before 2028 to avoid two live-action Batman films in the same year. Gunn addressed fan campaigns for Pattinson’s integration into the DCU, emphasizing that while there is significant interest, it does not reflect all fans and current narrative plans keep the Batverse separate. The DCU continues to establish its own tone, cast, and continuity distinct from Reeves’ Batverse.
