Former Coast Guard Officer Arrested for Threatening to Kill Trump

Peter Stinson, a former Coast Guard lieutenant and sharpshooter who also worked as a FEMA instructor and self-identifies as an Antifa member, has been arrested and charged with making numerous violent online threats against President Donald Trump. Court documents reveal that from 2020 through 2025, Stinson used social media platforms X and Bluesky to post death threats, including references to using rifles, knives, and poison, and even offered to fund a contract hit on the president. Some threats were made shortly after the 2024 assassination attempt on Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Stinson criticized the shooter's skills and discussed the necessity of execution and talent in such acts. His posts also included coded references, such as "8647," linked to former FBI Director James Comey's controversial post, and he employed various derogatory nicknames for Trump. The FBI affidavit details Stinson's explicit threats, including one where he questioned if he would be a bad person for wanting to kill Trump or pulling the trigger himself. Stinson's arrest underscores ongoing concerns about violent political threats against the sitting president and highlights the FBI's scrutiny of online extremist activities.
