Slovenia Advances Adult Cannabis Legalization Bill Texas Introduces Recreational Cannabis Proposal
Lawmakers in Slovenia have introduced a bill to legalize recreational cannabis, allowing adults to possess, share, and cultivate a limited number of plants at home, while commercial sales would remain illegal. The proposal follows advisory ballot measures supporting home cultivation and non-commercial recreational use, although these were not legally binding. In Texas, Democratic Rep. Jessica González has introduced House Bill 195 during a special legislative session called by Governor Greg Abbott, seeking to legalize adult-use cannabis with possession limits of 2.5 ounces in public and 10 ounces at home, but without allowing home cultivation. The Texas bill also includes provisions for commercial sales regulated by the Department of Licensing and Regulation, with licensing expected to begin by November 2026, and mandates child-resistant packaging and product labeling standards. Despite majority public support for legalization in Texas, Governor Abbott opposes legalizing recreational marijuana and supports maintaining criminal penalties. Meanwhile, in the Philippines, medical cannabis advocates protested during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address, urging Congress to pass legislation legalizing medical marijuana under strict medical supervision as current laws continue to prohibit cannabis use and possession.
