Fort Stewart Shooting Leaves One Dead, Several Wounded
On August 6, 2025, an active shooter incident at Fort Stewart Army base in Georgia resulted in at least one death and several wounded, with four to five people hospitalized. The shooting began at 11:04 a.m. in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area, prompting a base-wide lockdown and the closure of all gates, as well as temporary lockdowns of nearby schools. Authorities apprehended the suspected shooter and confirmed there was no ongoing threat, allowing the lockdown to be lifted by early afternoon. The FBI and Army Criminal Investigation Division are leading the ongoing investigation into the incident and casualties. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and other officials offered condolences to the victims' families. Fort Stewart is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River and houses about 10,000 residents.
