Senate Dems Seek Treasury, JPMorgan Testimony on Epstein Financial Ties
Senator Ron Wyden and other Senate Democrats are intensifying efforts to obtain and investigate Jeffrey Epstein's financial records, focusing on his extensive banking transactions and ties to institutions like JPMorgan Chase. Wyden introduced the Produce Epstein Treasury Records Act (PETRA) to compel the Treasury Department to release Epstein-related financial records, citing thousands of suspicious wire transfers totaling nearly $1.1 billion. Simultaneously, Senator Elizabeth Warren and nine other Democrats have called for congressional hearings, demanding testimony from JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon and other bank officials regarding the bank's long-term relationship with Epstein and potential oversight failures. These efforts come amid criticisms of limited transparency in the Department of Justice's investigation and attempts by House Republicans to restrict the release of Epstein documents. Democrats are pushing for greater scrutiny of financial institutions' roles in enabling Epstein's activities and seeking to ensure the banking system has safeguards against illicit conduct. Treasury has agreed to share some financial data with Congress, but the scope and timing of document releases remain uncertain as Republicans continue to oppose broader disclosures.
