Falls Church, Burlington Appoint New Planning, Marketplace Directors

The City of Falls Church has appointed Maciej “Matt” Mattauszek as its new Director of Planning, starting July 14. Mattauszek brings nearly 20 years of urban planning experience, notably in Arlington County where he contributed to major projects like the Pentagon City Sector Plan and coordinated efforts during Amazon’s HQ2 arrival. In Burlington, Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak has nominated Samantha McGinnis as the next Director of the Church Street Marketplace, with her appointment pending City Council approval. McGinnis, who has worked with Burlington for six years and currently serves as assistant director of downtown projects, has led numerous public events and programs, including launching the winter market during the COVID-19 pandemic. She will succeed Kara Alnasrawi, who is transitioning to lead the Community and Economic Development Office as part of a city restructuring plan. Both appointments reflect ongoing efforts to strengthen local leadership amid urban and economic development initiatives.
