University of Kansas Begins Construction on $100M Cancer Center Complex in Kansas City

The University of Kansas Cancer Center has begun construction on a new multi-million dollar facility in Kansas City that will unite research and patient care within a single complex for the first time in its history. This new center aims to foster real-time collaboration between physician-scientists, researchers, clinicians, and patients, accelerating the development and delivery of personalized cancer treatments. The groundbreaking event, attended by prominent officials including U.S. Senator Jerry Moran and Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, marks a significant milestone following the center's 2022 designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute, the highest honor in cancer care. The facility will offer a full spectrum of services from nutrition and social support to pathology and imaging, and provide patients access to cutting-edge clinical trials and therapies developed on-site. Funding for the project includes $69 million secured by Senator Moran, $125 million from the Sunderland Foundation, and additional contributions from state and community supporters. The center is expected to become a global destination for cancer care and research, focusing on innovative treatments such as cellular therapy to improve patient outcomes.
