Recent warm weather has led to an early spring for strawberry growers in both Newfoundland and the UK. In Newfoundland, co-owner Chris Lester of Lester's Farm Market expressed cautious optimism as his garlic and rhubarb have sprouted ahead of schedule, although he remains wary of potential frost affecting his strawberry crops. Meanwhile, in Sussex, The Summer Berry Company reported a significant increase in strawberry production, with 200 tonnes expected to hit supermarkets just in time for Easter, marking a 50-tonne increase from last year. Commercial director Jack Darnes highlighted that the warm, sunny weather has resulted in lush, sweet-tasting strawberries, which are anticipated to generate a positive response from consumers. Tesco's berry buyer noted that the arrival of these early strawberries signals the start of the UK fruit season and enhances their flavor due to the sunny conditions.
