Maharashtra Unveils Comprehensive 2025 EV Policy

The Maharashtra cabinet, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2025, effective until 2030, with a financial outlay ranging from Rs 1,993 crore to Rs 11,373 crore over five years. The policy provides toll waivers for electric four-wheelers and buses on major expressways such as the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Atal Setu, and Samruddhi Mahamarg, and a 50% toll discount on other state and national highways. All EVs registered in Maharashtra are exempt from motor vehicle tax, registration fees, and renewal charges. Purchase subsidies include a 10% discount for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, non-transport four-wheelers, and buses, and a 15% discount for electric goods vehicles and agricultural EVs. Charging stations will be set up every 25 km along state and national highways to expand infrastructure. The policy also aims to reduce carbon and greenhouse gas emissions, boost local EV manufacturing, promote battery recycling, and enhance skill development in the sector.
