Kennedy Family Responds to Murphy Biopic Backlash

Ryan Murphy’s anthology series 'American Love Story,' focusing on the romance of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, has faced backlash over casting and styling choices following the release of its first promotional images. Fans and critics argue the series fails to capture Bessette Kennedy’s iconic minimalist style, with particular criticism aimed at Sarah Pidgeon's hair color, which her real-life colorist called inaccurate. Despite praise for recreating JFK Jr.'s 1990 People magazine cover, many feel the actors do not resemble the real-life couple and consider the depiction inauthentic. Notably, JFK Jr.'s nephew Jack Schlossberg publicly suggested profits from the series be donated to the Kennedy Library. The show explores the couple’s private and public lives, culminating in their tragic deaths in 1999. Filming began in June 2025, with a planned premiere around Valentine's Day 2026.
