Parents Group Urges Federal Probe of YMCA Gender Policies

The American Parents Coalition has urged the Trump administration to investigate the YMCA for allegedly violating Title IX by allowing biological males to access girls' locker rooms, bathrooms, and overnight cabins, which they claim constitutes unlawful gender-based discrimination. The coalition's executive director, Alleigh Marré, argues that the YMCA's policies favor individuals based on gender identity rather than biological sex, thus compromising the safety, privacy, and fairness owed to girls. The YMCA, which receives over $600 million in federal funding, is alleged to have embraced what the group calls "radical gender ideology," including past website content promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion and access to facilities aligned with gender identity. The coalition's complaints were sent to the secretaries of the Department of Education, Health and Human Services, and Housing and Urban Development, citing President Trump's executive orders that clarify federal anti-discrimination laws are based on biological sex. The YMCA has since removed some web pages detailing these policies but maintains a public commitment to inclusivity and dignity for all individuals. The coalition insists that federal civil rights laws require the YMCA to protect girls' rights and privacy over gender identity considerations.
