Carnegie Science Center Renamed Kamin Center After $65M Donation
The Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh has been renamed the Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin Science Center following a historic $65 million donation from the Kamin family, marking the largest gift in the 130-year history of Carnegie Museums. This generous donation is enabling a major transformation, including a redesigned main lobby with a 25-foot digital media wall, a new pollinator garden, refreshed exterior signage, and a new starfield logo featuring a telescope symbolizing Daniel Kamin's lifelong passion for astronomy. Over the next two and a half years, the center plans to launch nine new exhibitions and experiences, including the Sports360 exhibit opening in December 2025 with nearly 25 interactive activities exploring the science behind sports, and the Science of Speed experience opening in Summer 2026 featuring a two-story electric kart track, interactive race car science exhibits, and a restaurant and lounge that will stay open after museum hours. Additional upgrades will refresh more than 75% of the exhibit spaces, including the Peirce Atrium, a Building Futures exhibition on in-demand careers, a Responsive Science display on climate change impacts, and a new early learners space. The center also launched the 'Ignite Your Curiosity' branding campaign, featuring a TV commercial voiced by Pittsburgh native Jeff Goldblum, to celebrate its new era and expanded mission to inspire future generations of innovators.
