Explosion Injures Two at Regina Co-op Refinery

An early morning explosion at the Co-op Refinery Complex in Regina on March 25 shook homes up to two kilometers away and was reported around 4:45 a.m. CST. Fire crews from the refinery controlled the blaze, which resulted in two employees suffering minor injuries. Emergency alarms were activated, and flames and smoke were visible from a distance, prompting Regina Fire and Protective Services to assist. The refinery confirmed that the fire was contained to a single processing unit while the rest of the facility remained operational. This incident marks another explosion at the refinery, which has a history of similar events, including a significant blast in 2013 caused by a frozen ruptured pipe.
