Curtis Clarifies Remarks After Charlie Kirk Killing

Jamie Lee Curtis addressed backlash after remarks she made on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast about Charlie Kirk’s Sept. 10 killing, saying she disagreed with Kirk’s ideas but believed he was “a man of faith” and hoped he felt connected to his faith when he died. Her comments generated confusion and what she described as “threatening” online backlash, in part because Kirk had a history of anti‑LGBTQ+ statements and Curtis is a longtime liberal advocate whose daughter is transgender. In a Variety interview published Oct. 28, Curtis said an excerpt “mistranslated” her words and stressed she was speaking about his faith, not endorsing his views. She lamented the present “binary” discourse that vilifies holding seemingly contradictory thoughts. Curtis pushed back on the idea that public figures must always be ultra‑cautious and said she will continue to speak candidly despite controversy.
