Two Harvey Men Charged After Wrong-Way Crash Injures Illinois State Trooper on I-57
Two Harvey residents, William Oiler, 44, and Herbert Needom, 57, were charged following a dangerous wrong-way crash on Interstate 57 that injured an Illinois State Police trooper. The incident began when Country Club Hills police attempted to stop a vehicle linked to a theft investigation, but the suspects fled, driving the wrong way onto the interstate and crashing head-on into a state trooper's squad car. The trooper sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while both suspects were also injured and taken to a hospital before being arrested by Markham police. Oiler faces multiple felony charges, including theft, fleeing and eluding police causing great bodily harm, property damage, and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, while Needom faces charges for felony theft and possession of burglary tools. After the crash, both suspects attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended. They remain in custody pending a detention hearing.
