Germany, Allies Step Up Patriot Deliveries to Ukraine

Germany will deliver two additional U.S.-made Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine in the coming days, with further components to follow within several months, as Russian aerial attacks on Ukrainian cities escalate. The transfer is part of a broader NATO and EU-backed initiative, brokered by President Donald Trump, which aims to shift more responsibility for arming Ukraine to European allies while the U.S. rapidly backfills German stockpiles with next-generation Patriots. Germany is the first country to receive replacements under this new arrangement. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and other Western leaders have praised Germany's leadership in supporting Ukraine's air defense. Ukrainian officials continue to call for additional advanced systems, citing ongoing shortages amid Russian attacks. Germany has now delivered a total of five Patriot systems to Ukraine since the Russian invasion began in 2022.
