Actor Eric Dane Reveals ALS Diagnosis, Faces Progressive Paralysis
Eric Dane, known for his roles in Euphoria and Grey's Anatomy, has publicly shared his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), revealing that he currently has only one functioning arm and expects to lose use of his left hand soon. He described the progression of his symptoms beginning with weakness in his right hand, which he initially attributed to fatigue, leading to a lengthy diagnostic process before receiving the sobering diagnosis. Dane expressed deep anger and sadness, particularly because his father died young and he fears being taken from his own young daughters, Billie and Georgia, whom he shares with his wife Rebecca Gayheart. He recounted a poignant moment when his daughter had to rescue him while snorkeling due to his legs suddenly giving out. Despite the challenges, Dane emphasized his determination to fight the disease and the strengthened relationship with his ex-wife, who remains a key supporter. ALS is a progressive, incurable neurological disease that affects nerve cells controlling muscle movement, with an average life expectancy of 2-5 years following diagnosis.
