Boston Convention Center Renamed for Late Mayor Menino

The Boston Convention & Exhibition Center will be officially renamed the Thomas Michael Menino Convention and Exhibition Center on July 12, honoring the late Mayor Thomas Menino, who served from 1993 to 2014 and was instrumental in developing Boston's Seaport district. Menino's vision and leadership were central to the creation of the convention center, which opened in 2004 and helped transform the Seaport into a global hub for business, tourism, and commerce. Governor Maura Healey and state legislators praised the renaming as a tribute to Menino's lasting legacy and his contributions to the city's economic development. The Massachusetts Legislature passed a law in 2024 to effect the change, which has received near-unanimous support. Menino's widow expressed gratitude for the honor, highlighting his belief in the power of development to improve neighborhoods and lives. The renaming ceremony coincides with the 32nd anniversary of Menino's swearing-in as acting mayor, marking a significant milestone in recognizing his impact on Boston.
