Superman Star Edi Gathegi Reflects on Missed Opportunity in X-Men Role

Edi Gathegi, known for his role as Darwin in the 2011 film X-Men: First Class, has spoken out about what he considers a misrepresentation and missed opportunity regarding his character's premature death. Darwin, a mutant with the power to adapt and survive any environment, was killed off early by the villain Sebastian Shaw, contrary to the comic books where he repeatedly returns to life. Gathegi agreed with fans who felt Darwin deserved a better storyline and expressed hope that the character would return in subsequent films, which did not happen. Now cast as Mister Terrific in James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie, Gathegi views this new role as a chance to 'undo the wrongs of Darwin' and is optimistic about his future projects within the DC Universe. He described Mister Terrific as a philosophically compelling hero who believes in justice through intelligence and innovation, contrasting this role with his previous superhero experience. The Superman movie is part of DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters and is set for release in July 2025.
