Rare Babe Ruth Card Sells for $812K

A rare Babe Ruth rookie card, discovered at a yard sale in Danvers, Massachusetts, has sold for $812,724 at auction, significantly exceeding its starting bid of $150,000. The card was part of the Morehouse Baking Company's promotional set from 1916, which included cards in loaves of bread. Jeff Gross, a collector who helped the anonymous seller evaluate the cards, described the experience as mind-blowing, noting that the collection included 119 Morehouse cards. The auction house, Robert Edward Auctions, had anticipated a sale price of around $500,000, but last-minute bidding drove the final price much higher. This marks the first time a Morehouse Ruth card has been auctioned, generating excitement within the collecting community. The seller plans to use part of the proceeds for a vacation with his wife.
