Carville Urges Democrats to Add States, Expand Supreme Court If Elected

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville has proposed that Democrats should take bold actions to "save democracy" in the face of challenges under President Donald Trump's administration. He suggested that if Democrats win the presidency, Senate, and House in 2028, they should unilaterally admit Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia as states, expand the Supreme Court to 13 members, and enact federal legislation to restrict redistricting to once every 10 years. Carville acknowledged these measures could be controversial and warned about "opening Pandora’s Box," but argued they are necessary as the country is moving further from democratic norms. He pointed to GOP efforts, such as Texas's attempt to redraw congressional districts, as examples of the current system's imperfections.
