Manchester United Makes Initial Approach for Sporting Striker Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United is actively pursuing significant reinforcements in their forward line this summer, targeting Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres and Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, as part of a broader effort to revive their attacking prowess following a disappointing 2024/25 season. Head coach Ruben Amorim, familiar with Gyokeres from their time together at Sporting, is leading the charge, with United making an initial approach through intermediaries and exploring the terms of a potential deal. Although Gyokeres has a high release clause near £85 million, Sporting might accept around £60 million, a price United appears prepared to meet, even as Arsenal also shows interest. The club’s improved financial position, partly due to cost-cutting measures under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has enabled this renewed spending capacity despite missing out on European competitions. Alongside Gyokeres and Mbeumo, United is also eyeing goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez to strengthen their squad further. Meanwhile, United is expected to make improved offers for Mbeumo after an initial bid rejection and is preparing for potential departures among current squad members to balance the squad changes.
