Reds' Ke'Bryan Hayes Wins Second Gold Glove Improving Team Defense
Ke'Bryan Hayes, newly acquired by the Cincinnati Reds during the 2025 MLB trade deadline, won the National League Gold Glove Award at third base for the second time in his career, having previously won it in 2023 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hayes' defensive excellence, characterized by leading all Major League third basemen in defensive runs saved and outs above average, was pivotal in improving the Reds' infield defense and contributed significantly to their first full-season postseason appearance since 2013. He played 152 games at third base with remarkable consistency, committing only five errors over 1,283 innings, the fewest errors for a National League third baseman with comparable innings since 1974. Hayes joins an elite group of Reds third basemen to win the award, including Scott Rolen, and is the first Reds player to earn a Gold Glove since Tucker Barnhart in 2020. Despite Spencer Steer being a finalist for the Gold Glove at first base, Hayes was the sole Reds player to win this season's award. The Reds' strategic acquisitions at the trade deadline, including Hayes, helped the team reach the playoffs, although they were swept by the Dodgers in the National League Wild Card Round.
