The Hassles Inducted Into Long Island Music Hall of Fame

The Hassles, Billy Joel's first major label band, will be inducted into the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame at a ceremony on June 28. The band, formed in 1964, was known for their energetic fusion of rock, R&B, and blue-eyed soul, releasing two albums that helped launch Billy Joel's career. Liberty DeVitto, Billy Joel's longtime drummer, will perform the induction honors, while surviving members Jon Small and Richard McKenna are expected to attend. Though Billy Joel himself is not expected at the event, this induction marks his second honor from the organization. The event will feature performances from notable Long Island musicians and serves to recognize The Hassles' lasting influence on the regional music scene. Additionally, Billy Joel's early career and the band's history will be highlighted in the upcoming HBO documentary "Billy Joel: And So It Goes."
